Parents: Please take the School-Year Calendar Planning Survey -
Each year, Ankeny Schools’ staff, administration and Board representatives meet to discuss and plan the school calendar. Part of that planning includes surveying parents regarding their preferences and using that feedback to guide our decisions through the process.

We are beginning our planning process for the 2015-2016 school calendar, and would like to invite parents to take our brief nine-question, multiple-choice survey found at the following link:

Visitors/Volunteers
At Westwood Elementary, we welcome visitors to our classrooms.  We ask that visits are pre-arranged and be limited to 30 minutes in length in order to minimize interruptions to instructional time.  If you plan to visit, please let your child's teacher know in advance.

We encourage parents to wait a couple of weeks after the beginning of school in the fall before visiting so that our staff and students can settle into expectations, routines, etc.

Please bring your drivers license with you when visiting the building as we will be running a sex offender check on all visitors before they are let into the building.

Please note that a volunteer packet must be filled out yearly if you plan on volunteering at Westwood (including visiting class parties or going on field trips).  The background check portion is good for 5 years, however, the contact information needs to be filled out yearly.  If you have any questions please call the Westwood office or email Nicole.aplin@ankenyschools.org.
Walk To School Day
Westwood has signed up to join in the “International Walk to School Day” on Wednesday Oct. 8th. This is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. Today, thousands of schools across America - from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico - participate. Let’s encourage our kids to be “Walk Stars” and make arrangements for them to walk to school that day! This is a great way to show Westwood and Iowa pride by participating! See you on the sidewalks!
Call Michele Wright, our school nurse, with any questions.

Blackboard Connect
The BlackboardConnect parent notification system will send messages to phones and email addresses on file with the district in Infinite Campus.  Expect messages about important happenings at Westwood throughout the school year.  If you need to update your email address, or receive the messages in error, please call the office 965-9690.
